Titlul prezentării sale este ‘Informational skills and agency on social media’. Iată și rezumatul:

‘Researchers from various disciplines have shown the various detrimental effects of using Social media platforms, mostly by highlighting the decline in the well-being of their users. Complementing these approaches with a perspective drawn from the philosophy of information, I will highlight an additional problematic effect of social media usage, namely how users as informational agents are deprived of informational agency. This talk will propose a concept of informational skills inspired by situated cognition and social epistemology. By linking informational skills with informational agency and digital flourishing, I will examine the limits of Social media platforms as informational environments. I will show that Social media platforms are usually constraining on the informational agency of their users and lead, in the long term, to the deskilling of said users.’

Special Issue of The Annals of the University of Bucharest, Philosophy Series:

Transhumanist future trends: a world depicted by cyborgs, bio-enhancement and gene technologies

The Annals of the University of Bucharest, Philosophy Series will devote its further issue to a special volume inspired by the most recent book of Stefan Lorenz Sorgner, We have always been cyborgs (Bristol University Press, 2021[1]). Sorgner’s account tries to highlight new perspectives on trans- and posthumanism, focused on three major thematic realms: Digital Data, Gene Technologies, and the Ethics of Transhumanism.

Authors interested in submitting their contributions for evaluation in order to be published in No 2, Issue 71, scheduled for 2022, are kindly asked to develop original articles, unpublished previously elsewhere, by following the editorial protocol of the journal[2], on the following, but not restricted, topics inspired by Sorgner’s book:

  • AI, brain-computer interfaces, genetic technologies, life extension
  • Critical aspects of transhumanism linked with digitalization
  • Human perfection, cyborgs, bio-enhancement, uploaded minds, immortality
  • Pessimistic and nihilistic turns of transhumanism
  • Norms, values and utopias inspired by transhumanism
  • Philosophical determinations of policy-making standards for contemporary digital culture and gene ethics
  • Personal and political interests in data collection
  • Panoptical effects of the virtual world
  • Bio-enhancement as key-solution to reduce violence and increase empathy and solidarity

Book reviews that critically address different hermeneutical insights of Stefan Lorenz Sorgner`s volume, We have always been cyborgs, are welcome, too.

Deadline and publication details

Articles and reviews should be submitted to the next e-mail addresses, oana.serban@filosofie.unibuc.ro and annals.philosophy@filosofie.unibuc.ro, by the 1st of September, 2022. After a process of double-blind peer review, articles will be scheduled for publication, forthcoming no later than November 1st, 2022.

The Annals of the University of Bucharest – Philosophy series, is a philosophical open-access research journal, published by the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Philosophy.

The Annals of the University of Bucharest, Philosophical series, is a scholarly double blind peer reviewed journal. The journal publishes articles considered of relevance for those interested in the field of philosophy and is addressed both to the Romanian and international philosophical community, with a special accent on East- and Central-European area.

The Annals of the University of Bucharest, Philosophical series, is devoted to the exploration of different topics of Philosophy.

A apărut volumul „Investigând patrimoniul cultural” – editori Romulus Brâncoveanu, Ştefan Ionescu

Reunind o serie de articole științifice ce tratează o temă de mare actualitate, cea a identității și a patrimoniului cultural tangibil și intangibil, la Editura Universităţii din Bucureşti a apărut volumul „Investigând patrimoniul cultural”, coordonat de prof. Romulus Brâncoveanu şi asist. cercet. Ştefan Ionescu.

Lucrarea este rezultatul colaborării mai multor profesori și cercetători reprezentând câteva dintre cele mai prestigioase instituţii de învăţământ superior româneşti: Universitatea din București, Universitatea „Al. Ioan Cuza” din Iași și Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara. Autorii analizează o tematică diversă grupată în jurul unor întrebări centrale precum: Ce este patrimoniul cultural şi cum se constituie el? Care este natura reprezentărilor și proceselor formative ale patrimoniului? Cum influențează noile mijloace de comunicare și socializare, noul mediu socio-economic, reprezentările ce îl alcătuiesc? Care este natura relației dintre patrimoniul cultural și mecanismele identitare? Cum pot fi caracterizate diferitele tipuri de identități în cadrul unei astfel de relaţii şi care-i sunt mijloacele de reprezentare specifice?

 

INVESTIGÂND PATRIMONIUL CULTURAL

Protecția mediului, dezvoltarea sustenabilă și esențializarea culturii în Europa post-pandemică, ideile proiectelor premiate de Universitatea din București în cadrul Local CIVIS Days 2021

În cadrul #localcivisdays2021, studenții Alexandra Brojbă, Alexandru Militaru, Călin Szanto, Dan Năfureanu și Ionuț Văduva, coordonați de asist. univ. dr. Oana Șerban de la Facultatea de Filosofie au câștigat locul 3 în cadrul competiției de proiecte studențești, CIVISthon UB. Proiectul lor, CIVIS-ECEP – ESENȚIALIZAREA CULTURII ÎN EUROPA
POST-PANDEMICĂ,  constă în realizarea unui microprogram vizând dezvoltarea mobilităților virtuale pentru educația culturală universitară și creșterea rolului responsabilității sociale a rețelei CIVIS prin prisma HUB-ului Society, Culture and Heritage, asumând dezvoltarea rezidentețelor cultural-artistice, intervenția la nivelul constituirii politicilor publice de recunoaștere a domeniului Culturii ca fiind esențial într-o societate postpandemică și intensificarea parteneriatelor cu actori externi. În cadrul aceluiași eveniment, dar pentru concursul Jurnal de student CIVIS, doctorandele Andreea Baciu și Andreea Stoicescu au primit mențiuni.

‘It is widely acknowledged that a central aim of science is to achieve understanding of the world around us, and that possessing such understanding is highly important in our present-day society. But what precisely is scientific understanding, and when is it achieved? In my book Understanding Scientific Understanding (OUP, 2017), I develop a philosophical theory of scientific understanding that answers these questions. In contrast to most existing studies in this area, my approach takes into account scientists’ views on understanding and their role in scientific debate and development. In my talk I will outline my theory of scientific understanding and illustrate it with a case study from the history of science.’
