The Faculty of Philosophy, University of Bucharest, will be the host of the second seminar, from the second cycle, of the European Ph.D. Network in Philosophy, in the period May 10-11, 2019.
The European Ph.D. Network in Philosophy is a joint scholarly program aimed at promoting the scientific quality and the internationalization of doctoral education, as well as providing doctoral students enhanced career possibilities. The participants of this network are the University of Bergen, Bielefeld University, the University of Bologna, the University of Bucharest, the University of Helsinki and Uppsala University. The main activity of the Net consists of the working seminars, which take place twice a year, each time in one of the universities belonging to the Net. The Director of the Net is Professor Gabriel Sandu from the University of Helsinki and the coordinator of the Net is Dr. Constantin C. Brîncuş from the University of Bucharest.

Joi, 9 mai 2019, începând cu ora 9.00, Facultatea de Filosofie va fi gazda unui atelier de dezbatere, argumentare și creație literar-filosofică pe tema „VALORI FUNDAMENTALE ALE UMANITĂȚII EUROPENE: Libertatea, Fericirea, Adevărul”, la care vor participa aproximativ 50 de elevi si trei profesori de la Colegiul Național de Informatică „Tudor Vianu” și de la Liceul Francez „Anna de Noailles”. Din partea facultatii va participa, dl. lect.dr. Marin Bălan.
În cadrul atelierului elevii vor analiza semnificația și actualitatea simbolurilor esențiale din două capodopere literar-filosofice din culturile franceză și română: Mitul lui Sisif (A. Camus) și Iona (M. Sorescu).
Obiectivele proiectului sunt:
- cunoașterea unor simboluri spirituale și filosofice ale culturii europene;
- realizarea unei abordări pluri- și trans- disciplinare;
- dezbaterea implicațiilor actuale ale acestor simboluri culturale;
- valorificarea informării și creativității elevilor prin redactarea de eseu literar-filosofic.

Miercuri, 8 mai, în cadrul Seminarului de cercetare al Departamentului de Filosofie Teoretică, Alexandru Dragomir, de la Universitatea din București, va susţine prezentarea intitulată „Imaginability, Possibility and Post-personhood”. Întâlnirea va avea loc în amfiteatrul Titu Maiorescu, începând cu ora 18.
Câteva cuvinte despre tema prezentării: „Recent results in pharmaceutics and genetic engineering have led bioethicists to venture the thought that the cognitive enhancement of human beings might lead to the emergence of a new moral status category, that of post-personhood – beings that might claim rights detrimental to us, mere persons. The aim of this talk is to sketch an argument that we are not justified in believing that post-persons are technologically possible. For this purpose I will assume the following two theses: (1) that imaginability-evidence for P is sufficient for having a justified belief in the metaphysical possibility of P, unless the seeming of possibility can be explained away, and (2) that if we are justified in believing that P is physically or technologically possible, then we are justified in believing that P is metaphysically possible. I will aim at explaining away the seeming that post-persons are possible, therefore establishing that we do not hold evidence for believing that they are metaphysically possible, and, by using the contrapositive of (2), that we are not justified in believing their technological possibility.”

În anumite contexte filosofice, se discută astăzi despre rosturile pe care le mai păstrează câteva noțiuni socotite fundamentale în istoria filosofiei, printre ele aflându-se și cele menționate în tema conferinței: realitate, aparență, evidență, probabilitate. Motivează încă aceste concepte experiențe semnificative de reflecție pentru cercetătorii din domeniile filosofiei? Tehnicile de filosofare definite recent și exersate în filosofia analitică, în hermeneutica filosofică, în câteva discipline filosofice aplicate: etică, estetică, antropologie, în legătură cu teme ”speciale” aparținând acestor discipline, pot atrage în orizontul lor aplicativ conceptele în cauză? Temele accentuat specializate pe care lucrăm în mod covârșitor astăzi le resping pe cele mai generale, legate, unele dintre ele, de aceste concepte? Nu cumva recunoașterea temelor filosofice mai generale și încercarea de a le aborda în conexiune cu cele ”speciale” ar trebui să constituie astăzi o dominantă a activității de cercetare filosofică? Acestea sunt câteva dintre întrebările pe care vom încerca să le punem în discuție la această conferință.
Sunt invitați să participe cu lucrări doctoranzi ai Școlii Doctorale de Filosofie a Universității din București și ai altor școli doctorale, cercetători, cadre didactice universitare. Cei care doresc să participe trebuie să trimită, până la 15.04.2019, un rezumat al lucrării și un scurt CV, la adresa: scoala.doctorala@filosofie.unibuc.ro. Temele și rezumatele propuse vor fi evaluate, iar programul conferinței va fi comunicat pe 01.05.2019.
Lucrările prezentate vor fi publicate într-un volum la Editura Universității din București.

The Research Centre for the History and Circulation of Philosophical Ideas (CCIIF) and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest are pleased to inform you that our institutions will organize and host the conference “Smart Cities Need Upgraded Humans”, held by Stefan Lorenz Sorgner, Professor at John Cabot University (Rome). The event starts at 11 A.M. at the Faculty of Philosophy, Splaiul Independenței 204, Bucharest (Amph. Constantin Rădulescu-Motru).
Stefan Lorenz Sorgner is a philosophy professor at John Cabot University in Rome and is director and co-founder of the Beyond Humanism Network, Fellow at the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies (IEET), Research Fellow at the Ewha Institute for the Humanities at Ewha Womans University in Seoul and Visiting Fellow at the Ethics Centre of the Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena. He is author and editor of more than 10 books, e.g. Metaphysics without Truth (Marquette University Press 2007), Menschenwürde nach Nietzsche (WBG 2010), Transhumanismus (Herder 2016), Schöner neuer Mensch (Nicolai, 2018), Übermensch (Schwabe 2019). In addition, he is Editor-in-Chief and Founding Editor of the “Journal of Posthuman Studies” (a double-blind peer review journal, published by Penn State University Press since 2017). Furthermore, he is in great demand as a speaker in all parts of the world (e.g. TEDx; World Humanities Forum, Global Solutions Taipei Workshop) and a regular contact person of national and international journalists and media representatives (e.g. Die Zeit).

The abstract of the conference “Smart Cities Need Upgraded Humans”
„We have always been cyborgs. Now, it occurs that computers are in the process of getting smaller and of entering our bodies so that we turn into upgraded humans, who can interact efficiently with their environment within smart cities, and have the appropriate means for dealing with aging, the worst mass murderer in the world. This development goes along with new challenges related to digitalization, whereby the coming about of the internet panopticon is the most serious of all of them. I will reflect upon how these developments relate to post- and transhumanist discourses, and what can be done to successfully deal with the ethical challenges related to this development. Will we also end up with a social credit system, as it will be in place in all of China from 2020 onwards? Would it make a difference, if we start seeing social credits as a way of gaining data capital? The Black Mirror episode “Nosedive” reveals some implications of what is happening right now….”

Volumul “Philosophy and Film: Bridging Divides”, editat de Christina Rawls, Diana Neiva, Steven S. Gouveia, a apărut în luna aprilie la Routledge și reunește douăzeci de articole originale ale unor cercetători din diferite tradiții filosofice și academice, atât din Europa cât și din SUA.
În cadrul acestui volum, Asist. Univ.
