CCIIF – Centrul de Cercetare a Istoriei Ideilor Filosofice, al Facultatii de Filosofie U.B. organizeaza conferinta Hannah Arendt on Eichmann: The Right to Judge and Other Moral Dilemmas, sustinuta de Dr. Andre Krauss. Conferinta va fi gazduita de Facultatea de Psihologie si Stiintele Educatiei, avand loc in Amf. Motru, in data de 30 iunie 2015, incepand cu ora 12:00. Aceasta conferinta se inscrie intr-un amplu calendar de evenimente academice si cicluri de conferinte, prilejuite de acordarea titlului de Doctor Honoris Causa Profesorului Dr. Brad Bushman, care va sustine conferinta Blood, Gore and Video Games: Effects of Violent Content on Players, luni, 29 iunie, de la ora 18:00, in sala Constantin Stoicescu a Facultatii de Drept. Invitatul CCIIF, Andre Krauss, colaborator al Prof. Dr. Bushman, detine titlul de doctor in Istoria Artei (University din Gothenburg, Sweden) si in Psihologie Sociala (Universitatea din Bucuresti), activitatea didactica si de cercetare fiind desfasurata, in ultimii 30 de ani, in Suedia, Israel, SUA si Europa Centrala.

Lecture SynopsisBio

Hannah Arendt on Eichmann: The Right to Judge and Other Moral Dilemmas
Taking Hannah Arendt’s book Eichmann in Jerusalem: Report on the Banality of Evil (1963) as a point of departure, the lecture will initially examine and evaluate Arendt’s two primary accusations of the Jews during the Holocaust: 1) the collaboration of the Jewish Councils with the Nazi authorities and 2) the lack of a more vigorous resistance by the Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe.
These two issues, collaboration and resistance, plus a number of other moral dilemmas have been and continue to be posed, examined, evaluated and debated since the end of World War II.
The lecture will explore these issues and moral dilemmas such as the right to judge, the right to revenge and the right to forgive by reviewing a variety of documentary material relating to examples representative of the specific problems and by the inherent questions that remain unanswered.

AndreKraussDr. Krauss, a research fellow at the Institute of Sociology at the Romanian Academy is a published art historian and media psychologist and holds two doctorates: History of Art from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and Social Psychology from the University of Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Krauss has been teaching and conducting research for over 30 years in Sweden, Israel, the US and Central Europe.
Dr. Krauss brings a cross disciplinary approach to media psychology by combining his knowledge of visual literacy and analysis of visual communication with the understanding of its emotional impact on the audience.
Dr. Krauss established the centers for media studies at UAV University in Arad and also at the UV Timisoara. In collaboration with Dr. Aaron Sell, from the Center for Evolutionary Psychology at the University of California, Dr. Krauss conducted experimental research with students at major universities in Romania.
Presently, Dr. Krauss’ research interests range from the aesthetics of high and pop culture, audience reception research, and to the continued blurring of the distinction between fiction and reality and its impact on the perception of history, in a media dominated by entertainment.
