Chevening scholarships is the UK Government’s international scholarships programme and is available for Europe in the 2027/2028 academic year.
Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office alongside partner organisations, this prestigious scheme provides future leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive lasting, positive change. Chevening is more than a scholarship, as it builds enduring relationships between the United Kingdom and the scholars’ home countries, opening the way to continued collaboration, partnership, and professional links with UK institutions and government bodies during and after their studies.
Romania has a particularly strong Chevening story, with 364 distinguished members who form part of a global network of over 62,000 leaders and changemakers.
A Chevening Scholarship offers a fully funded master’s degree at the UK university of the scholar’s choice, alongside lifelong membership in an influential international network. While the selection process is highly competitive, it is exceptionally rewarding, and we are actively seeking candidates with a realistic plan to bring about positive change in areas that matter to both Romania and the UK.
Full eligibility criteria, step-by-step guidance, and the online application form are available on the official Chevening website (https://www.chevening.org/fellowship/chevening-europedefence-and-security-fellowship/ or https://www.chevening.org/scholarships/ ).
Please note that the application deadline for candidates in Romania has been extended to Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at 12:00 BST (14:00 Bucharest time) to ensure that prospective applicants who may not have previously known about Chevening have sufficient time to submit their applications, and we strongly encourage all eligible students, researchers, and staff members to explore this extraordinary opportunity
