Asist. univ. dr. Oana Șerban va susține vineri, 3 decembrie, în cadrul seminarului „Feel to Know: Emotion and Cognition in Early Modern Philosophy (online), Seminar Series: Fall 2021”, conferința „The Cartesian Test of Modern Love”.
Seminarul este coordonat de Dr. Lynda Gaudemard și este organizat de Institutul de Istoria Filosofiei din cadrul Universității Aix-Marseille. Ediția din 3 decembrie este dedicată rolului pasiunilor în cadrul filosofiei lui R. Descartes. La această ediție se alătură Dr. Saja PARVIZIAN (Coastal Carolina University, Conway), care va continua seria dezbaterilor printr-o altă prelegere, „Against Passionate Epistemology: Defending Pure Thought in the Meditations”. Conferința va fi înregistrată și difuzată online prin canalul de Youtube al seminarului „Feel to Know: Emotion and Cognition in Early Modern Philosophy”
Dr Oana SERBAN (University of Bucharest, Bucharest), „The Cartesian Test of Modern Love”
Abstract: This lecture tackles the role of emotions in convincing on the dualism advanced by Descartes, closely following the constitution of love at the edge of modus cognoscendi and modus volendi. The following questions will inspire our reflection on love as a spiritual exercise and a constitutive emotion for (self)knowledge: (1) does love represent a core-emotion for Descartes that regains his Christian thinking at the edge of his metaphysical and epistemological project, apparently excused of any religious implications? (2) what is Descartes’s account of love and how does it (emotionally) change the sense and reception of passions?
