Câteva cuvinte despre tema prezentării: „We are living in a post-truth era with diminishing trust in science and in experts more generally. As a result, epistemology unexpectedly became central to politics and the practice of science. In order to empower epistemology in the vita activa, however, we need to expand its domain and revisit its goals. In this paper, I will argue for the need of a “charlatan epistemology” if we are to understand the current onslaught on truth and knowledge. I will pursue a history and philosophy of science approach in which I historicize charlatanism and look at particular case-studies that give insight in the potential of charlatan epistemology. At the end of my presentation, I will indicate how this historicization of charlatanism leads us to epistemological considerations: What is knowledge? How can it be faked? As artisans of trickery and deception, charlatans can be said to have created their own charlatan epistemology.”
